The optimization of a light truck gear-box is carried out by using the combination of finite element simulation and experimental test.A statics and dynamics FEM simulation is performed on the light truck gear-box to find out the larger position of stress and strain in the first stage. The result of this stage can be referred as measured points for statics and dynamics experiments. The structure of the gear-box is modified by analyzing FEM simulation and experiments.Furthermore
the maximum stress value is decreased by nearly half and modal frequency is improved significantly through the statics and dynamics analysis on powertrain structure including the engine
support and gear-box.The results demonstrate that the rationality and validity of the structural optimization.
