Drilling on gears could reduce the vibration effectively.The finite element models of a pair of spur gears are studied for stress calculation.The stress data is fitted with quadratic polynomial by response surface method and least squares method.The design values of holes’ parameters are presented through the optimization of minimizing the maximum stress.The gear samples are produced and the contrast test between holey spur gear and common spur gear is applied on the gear closed test bench.The test results imply that drilling on gears would damp the vibration of gear pair and can be applied extensively.
