A model of transverse vibration of automotive engine timing chain with damper that was modeled as a single degree of freedom system which consists of a mass and a spring was developed from Multi-DOF system theory based on finite centralized mass distributed modeling
and the differential equation of system vibration was established. The natural frequencies and the natural modes were computed
and the effect of the damper where was installed on the system mode shapes and the mass and stiffness of damper on the natural frequency of chain drive system were investigated. Some measures to design the damper in the automotive engine timing chain are presented.
