Genetic Algorithm (GA) is an intelligent search algorithm which is parallel
random
self-adapting
self-organixing. The algorithm simulates nature selection and genetic mechamism in the process of biologic evolution. This algorithm is especially suitable to soling complex or non-linear optimization questions
as it not only has parallel nature but makes full use of overall information. In this paper
GA was used to optimize the design of spiral bevel gear transmission. Several examples were given. The results shown that this GA optimum design procedure is effective and correct.
