Journal of Mechanical Transmission (ISSN 1004-2539; CN 41-1129/TH; former title Gear) was founded in 1977, governed by China Machinery Industry Federation and co-sponsored by China Academy of Machinery Zhengzhou Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering Co. Ltd, Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society and China Machine General Components Industry Association. It is the official journal of the Mechanical Transmission Branch of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, and the journal of the Gear and Electric Drive Branch of China Machine General Components Industry Association. The journal enjoys a good reputation and has a high influence in the machinery industry.

The journal is included by Chinese Core Journals, Key Magazine of China Technology, Chinese Core Academic Journals, Statistical Source Journals of the Comprehensive Evaluation Database of Chinese Academic Journals, DOAJ, JST, UPD, ICI, Wanfang, CQVIP, Chaoxing, etc. The journal has been selected into the Classification Catalog of High Quality Scientific and Technological Journals - Mechanical Engineering and the World Journal Clout Index (WJCI). The journal aims at promoting the research development of mechanical transmission industry.
